背疼

My entire life I only ever had 4 cavities. In the last year I adopted a vegan diet. High fruit at times. Went to the dentist and had 6 new cavities within just this year.

Vitamin K2 And Tooth Decay

In fact, in a 2004 Dutch study, men and women over 55 years old with the highest intake of vitamin K2 in their diets had a whopping 50% lower incidence of heart disease, which was attributed to reduced calcification and hardening of the arteries.
In Japan, vitamin K2 is routinely prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis.
Vitamin K2 and tooth decay.
Research shows that vitamin K2 and vitamin D together result in a far greater reduction of tooth decay than does either vitamin alone.
In his clinical trials on tooth decay, Dr Weston Price achieved the best results when he gave children vitamin D from cod liver oil together with what he termed fat-soluble “Activator X” found in concentrated butter oil from grass-fed cows. We now know thatActivator X is vitamin K2.
How much K2 is necessary?

【 How to protect teeth】

I go to the dentist several times per year and haven't had any cavities in a couple years. I eat dates all the time and drink banana smoothies as well. I wait 30 min. before brushing to avoid enamel erosion, but what I always do is rinse vigorously with water right after every meal. I also use an interdental brush every time I brush my teeth (3x a day) and floss twice a day. I eat a starch-based diet however, not a fruit based diet. I also avoid chewing on fruits directly and prefer to blend them and drink them instead; less contact with teeth.

100条长寿秘方

3、正确的观念远比昂贵的药物和危险的手术更能帮助患者消除疾病。有了正确的观念,你就会有正确的决定,你就会有正确的行为,你就可以预防许多疾病的发生。

4、具有的一切智慧,绝对不是从书本里学来的,而是从自己的真诚心、清净心(就是佛家所说的菩提心),从定中生出来的。

5、人是一切生物中构造最完美的灵体,健康的身体是人生来就具足的;人的健康状况的调节是靠人体本身所具有的调节修复系统来完成的,而不是靠外部因素,外部因素只能起辅助作用。

6、人的大部分生病现象是人体在调节、清理身体垃圾时所表现的现象,是人体自动调节平衡所表现出的状态,所以应该把它们当成正常的生理现象,而不应该去把它当成病因来消灭。所以当人在生病的时候,一定不要有怨恨嗔恚心,心里要安定,心定则气顺,气顺则血畅,气顺血畅则百病消。

7、人的健康离不开两大要素:1)足够的气血;2)畅通的经络(包括血管和排泄垃圾的通道)。

8、足够的气血靠:足够的食物+胆汁+必要时间内(晚天黑后~午夜1点40)优质的睡眠(这个时候大脑完全不工作,由植物神经主导)+良好的生活习惯。

9、畅通的经络需要:清净心。一切七情六欲都会破坏清净心,从而破坏经络的正常运行。

11、过度地增加食物不仅不会增加血气,而且会成为身体中的垃圾负担,反过来还得靠消耗血气来把他们清理掉。五脏六腑是一个血气加工厂,食物是原材料,加工能力是有限的,而食物是无限的,所以食物的数量必须得到控制。

12、适当运动可以帮助人的气血运行,但同时也在消耗人的气血。人体的微循环主要应该靠松静来达到的,这也是健康必不可少的。

13、人体中的垃圾越多,就越需要更多的血气来清除它们,但人的血气因为垃圾的增多和血脉的阻塞而减少,这就形成了恶性循环,这也正是人衰老的机理。所以,人要想健康不老,就要:1)减少体内的垃圾;2)增加血脉经络的畅通;3)增加体内的气血。

16、对于一个有宿疾的人来说,只有气血充足了(一是通过这里所介绍的补充气血的方法,二是通过散步打通气机),病情才会显现出来。所以练功的人在功夫达到一定水平后都会出现一些“有病”的现象。这个时候要沉住气,定下心来多做些静功来增加自己的气血,以尽快度过这个时期。

17、人违背了养生法则,虽不一定会立即得病,但一旦形成习惯,就会大大增加得病的机会。这就和交通规则一样,你违背了交通规则,不一定会出事故,但其危险性是显而易见的。

18、人为什么必须保持一定的饥渴才是对养生有利呢?其实这就是“虚”的妙用。道家讲,虚则灵。这和谦虚使人进步,自满使人落后一样,所以人必须经常保持“虚灵”的状态,才能时时保持清醒,保持健康。

19、人要想健康,就必须使体内有足够的"气"来"气化"所进的食物。只有这样,你的体内才不会积累垃圾,不会有多余的食物来释放游离的"虚火"损害你体内的脏器,这个"虚火"反过来会损耗你的"气"。所以,从这个意义上来讲,现代人生病,大多数是饮食不节的缘故。

20、“久卧伤气”、“久坐伤肉”、“逸则气滞”,即过分静养,会使脾胃消化功能低下、脏腑功能呆钝、气血流行滞涩、抵抗力下降、免疫功能受损,血中糖、脂、尿酸、血压升高,久而久之,人就会生病,而且多是体弱多病,如反复感冒、食欲不振、神疲乏力、不耐疲劳等。

21、俗语说“灵机一动,计上心来”。这个“机”字如果能真正领悟透了,那么你的悟性就算是开了。老师教人,医生治病,其实就是在点拨你的这个“机”,让你“机”打开。这个“机”,有时也叫“关键”。当然,这个“机”起作用是有条件的,就和氢气只有达到一定浓度,遇火才可以燃烧爆炸一样。记住,别人的作用都是外因,你自己才是真正的内因。

22、其实,许多真正的发现和发明,所需要的不是所谓系统的书本知识;恰恰相反,一个没有受过任何系统教育,但悟性极高的、具有开放思维的人,他往往真正悟到真相.

23、人生最忌是个乱字,心乱了,对外可以紊事,对内可以打扰血气,使失正常。凡恼怒恐怖喜忧昏疑,都是乱,为多病短寿的根源,不但养病时不应乱,即平居时亦忌心乱。

24、多嗔伤肝,多淫伤肾,多食又伤脾胃。忧思伤脾,愤怒伤肝,劳虑伤神。

25、身病之起,无不由心虚弱,外邪乘入。而心虚气弱,每由心魂恼乱,真体不充,发现种种不安。贪食贪胜贪得贪乐逸,皆足以致病。以贪之不得,于是乎嗔。贪嗔可使心荡气促,胆惊肝旺,六脉震动,五脏沸腾,外邪同时乘入,此病之起因。

26、凡人欲求长寿,应先除病。欲求除病,当明用气。欲明用气,当先养性。养性之法,当先调心。

27、人受五行之气而治生,故肉身以气为主。气亏则病,气滞则病。欲治其病,先治其气。

28、气以行血,血以补气,二而一也。凡人久视则伤血、久卧伤气、久坐伤肉、久立伤骨、久行伤筋,七情六欲之过则伤元气、伤心肾。相火旺,真阳耗。

29、治五脏之病,莫先于补气。肾犹亟焉。补气在勿动心,心动则肝旺,各脉震惊,真水耗损。心为扇,主引风。风动则火旺,火旺则水干,水干则地损。

30、心定神一,受治者信坚心专,两心相合,可以统治百病,无不神效。

31、人病可分两种:一是经络基本畅通但气不足。表现是经常这疼那疼,这是因为他气不足以气化食物,而产生了相火(也叫虚火),随着经络在体内乱穿,哪儿通走哪儿,遇到一个地方堵塞了,这个地方就疼了。这样的人吃一点药物就会立即见效。二是经络不通,气也就无处存身。表现在外表看不出有什么毛病,但一旦发现就是大病,而且这种人经常是吃什么药都见效慢,或根本不起作用。

主发谓之机。箭在弦上要发出去,必须拨动这个机。其他任何事情都是这样,都有一个机,只有触动这个机,事情才会发生,不触动这个机,其他的条件再多,也没办法引发事件。机就是这么一个东西,它是事情发生的最关键因素。它是点,不是面。可是触动这个点,就能带动面。所以,病机就是疾病发生、发展、变化的最关键因素,(也可以讲,病机一开,人的病状就会显现出来,人就进入了“病”的恶性循环当中。和病机相对的就是“生机”。生机一开,人就会进入康复这个良性循环当中。实际上病机和生机是一个东西的两个方面,是一对阴阳。病机开了,生机就关了,而生机开了,病机也就自然开始关闭了。这个就是辩证法。)

32、中医的最高境界是养生,养生的最高境界是养心。所以,就养生而言,下士养身,中士养气,上士养心。看一个人也是一样,观相不如观气,观气不如观心。

33、心神不安,情性燥急,为致病致死之总因。故安心法,为卫生第一要诀。心可以主动一切。心定则气和,气和则血顺,血顺则精足而神旺,精足神旺者,内部抵抗力强,病自除矣。故治病当以摄心为主。

34、风寒阴阳暑湿,在在皆可使人致病。万一抵抗力薄弱,即可乘虚而入。身弱者多病,即是此理。富人有保卫力,如衣食住等等。贫人有抵抗力,如气足神旺,毛孔厚密,不易侵入等等。富人多食肥甘,伤胃伤齿。贫人多饿,所食不杂,故无肠病。富人多逸,故多气恼。贫人多劳,故少疾病。富人不造福而享福,只是消福,消尽则穷。穷人能勤俭,即是造福,果熟即富。凡衣食住之保卫力富,则精气神之抵抗力弱。保卫力弱,则抵抗力强。

35、大病初愈,切忌理发洗足沐浴。

36、故求长寿无病,常强肉身。欲强肉身,当调伏精气神。欲调精气神,当拒绝扰乱之贼。欲杜此贼,当先摄心。欲求摄心,当化贪嗔痴三毒。欲化除此三毒,必学心戒。但空口言戒,无益于事,必求开慧,方不为所愚。欲求开慧,必先求定。欲求得定,必学散步。

37、能静则仁,有仁则寿,有寿是真幸福。

38、一切修身修心法门,只有两字诀:曰放下、曰回头。放下屠刀,立地成佛;苦海无边,回头是岸。只要一放下,一回头,病者顿愈,迷者顿觉。此真无量寿者。

39、心过劳的人,心疲肝旺,心过劳就是心太满,不虚。心满,则不纳肝(木)生之火,心不纳肝生之火,则肝气必积而盛。肝木克土,脾胃受病,消化不良,营养不足,夜眠不安。土又克水,于是肾水大亏,水不足则火更旺,心肾相联,心气更弱,肺病即成。内部相互关联,一动全动,一病全病。而扰之者,乃在妄心,所以治病在安其心,安心在息妄,息妄在明心,明心即自觉,而健康的功效在乎散步。

40、散步是息心法,心息则神安,神安则气足,气足则血旺,血气流畅,则有病可以去病,不足可以补充,已足可以增长。现在病可去,未来病可防,此其小者也。又心息则神明,神明则机灵,静者心多妙,观机辨证,格外敏捷,见理既正,料事益远,遇乱不惊,见境不惑,能一切通达,自无主观偏执之弊,而大机大用,由此开启矣。

41、人在生病的时候最忌讳是嗔恚心起。这个时候一定要安然顺受,让心安定。然后慢慢调理,健康很快恢复。心安才能气顺,气顺才能除病。否则心急火上,肝气受损,加重病情。心神宁一,那浑身的血气,自可健全发挥。心有两种,一是真心,一是妄心。真心是水,妄心是波,波因风动,风止波息,而水不动。寂然无念,是无心心也。

42、子时失眠,肾水必亏,心肾相连,水亏则火旺,最易伤神。

43、睡时如有思想,不能安着,切勿在枕上转侧思虑,此最耗神。

44、午时属心,此时可散步一刻钟,闭目养神,则心气强。

45、早起如在寅时三点至五点,此时切忌郁怒,不然必损肺伤肝,万望注意。

46、人生一切事业,皆以精神为根本,而精神之衰旺强弱,全赖心神之静定不乱,一个乱字,足以妨碍一切工作。

47、人生以血气流通为主,气滞可以阻血,血阻可以结毒为疖为瘰,为癌为瘤,皆是血气不流通之故。气以顺为主,血以通为畅。百病无不先由气滞,气郁于内,肝先受伤。挽救之法,在化除得诀。而化除要诀有二:第一寻其根,其根在心,心空则一切自化。第二以药石、按摩助其化除,帮助血气之流通。

48、养病治病不可求速。因性急助火,火旺损气,反而不美。另不可贪多,贪则无恒而性急,况百病由贪而起,不可再贪以重增病苦也。

49、心属火、肾属水,心肾相连。火宜降下,水宜上升,水火相济,则蒸气内发。各部机体运动,可求得健康。此可于舌上察知。舌无水则不活,故活字以三点水加舌字。舌上可以报告内部各种病状深浅,以断生死。

50、大病自救法:一、不要怕死,决信我这个病,非但可以养好,并且身体可以格外健康,保证长寿。因为自己机体中本有特具的能力,不是空言的安慰。二、相信不用医药或靠何种营养食品,一定有自己除病延年的妙法。三、从今日起,我决定不许再去打扰我那病体,不许想著我那个病是如何病的,好坏都不许去计较它,只做个无事人。四、在这修理期内,不许想念工作,也不许悔恨丧失了时间和工作,专心一致,否则又迟误了。

51、静养法:安坐(卧)在床上,把身心一齐放下,自己浑身如融化,不许用一毫气力,好像没有这个身子相似。呼吸顺其自然,心也不许它用一点力,一起念便是用力了。把心安在脚底板下,此是引火向下,引水向上,自然全身气血顺畅。

52、修行要诀:寂照照寂切忌用力成佛作祖无他秘密。

具体要求:不许任何部分用一点气力,包括意念、呼吸、肢体,做到:眼不观,耳不闻,鼻不嗅,舌不尝,口不纳,心不想。此是唯一条件。若有所思所闻所觉,即是用气力,甚至乎使臂指即是用气力。呼吸稍粗亦即是用气力。不久那呼吸自然而平,似乎不由口鼻内出纳,而浑身八万四千毛孔中有了动作,或张或翕,此时无我无身无气无心,天然心归本位。所谓引火归元,又名水火既济,为治疗百病之总诀。

53、为了养生而死的,占十分之三。到底怎么回事?是因为太爱惜自己的身体了。为了这副臭皮囊,怕受辱,怕受宠,怕吃亏,怕上当,瞻前顾后,左顾右盼,担惊受怕,患得患失……这样,他那颗心整天缩成核桃样,像是被狗反复啃过,怎么能不死。越怕死,越死得快。你要是养生,就得不怕死。只有不怕死,才能远离死。真正不怕死的人,走路不会遇上老虎,就是遇上老虎也不吃他。打仗遇不上刀枪,就是遇上,刀枪也不伤他。为什么?因为他不把死当回事,不怕死,死也就没法了。养生,并不是修道的目的,但是修道的人已经看透了生死,所以不再怕死,既然已经不再怕死,那么死也就不再是问题。生死这一关过去,还有什么过不去的?因此,修道的人能够长生。没想到长生,反倒能长生。一心想着长生,反而死得快。长生不是修道的目的,它只是修道的附带现象。

54、人有病,人还不以为有病,这就是人的最大的病。知道自己有病的人有多少呢?

55、天天三更半夜还在网上的人,本身就是养生的大忌。包括一些所谓的名医也是这样。还有,他们的心量也是斤斤计较,试问这样的人连自己都保不住,还怎么医人呢?

56、别贪那个小便宜,大便宜也别贪。一个贪字就含着祸。贪,患得患失会导致人得心脏病。贪,患得患失是不懂道法自然的表现。

57、不要天天想着吃什么补阴,吃什么壮阳。记住了,运动就可以生阳;散步就可以生阴。阴为阳之母,阳为阴之用。

58、人在气不足的时候,不能盲目补气,否则会影响身体健康。如果是因为血不足,就需要先补血,因为血为气之母,否则就成了干烧器皿,把内脏烧坏;如果是因为淤滞不通,就可以增加气血,血气同补。这样才能达到补气的作用。

59、环境对人养生的重要性是不言而喻的。这就是为什么人在空气清新的深山老林里,会把痼疾养好的道理。因为深山老林中的精微物质(负离子)会通过人在放松情况下的深呼吸把它吸收到人体内部,从而滋润孕养五脏六腑,使人重新焕发活力。还有重要的一点常人并不所知,就是人不仅仅是通过口鼻来呼吸,人身体的每个汗毛孔都是可以呼吸的,而且正是它们吸取着天地的精华。

60、人在松静的状态下,慢慢深呼吸就能体会到人和天地精微之气的交换:在吸气时,实际除了肺在吸气,整个身体是在把体内的气向外排,即把人的气释放到天地;而肺在呼气时,实际人是在通过全身毛孔吸收天地的精微之气。这大概就是老子所说的“天地之间,其犹橐龠乎”。

61、运动有两点禁忌:一是不能在气血不足的时候运动;二是不能在污浊的环境中运动。

62、运动的作用有二:一是增加气血的运行速度,促进体内的垃圾排出体外;二是打开皮肤的毛孔,吸收天地精气。

63、什么是悟性?什么是智慧?悟性和智慧就是用最简单的方法来处理、看待一切事物。但一些庸人自扰的人总是把简单的事情看复杂了、做复杂了。繁和简其实是一回事,是一回事的两个方面。聪明的人看到的是简单的一面,愚蠢的人看到的是复杂的一面。

64、人治不了的病,要靠神治;神治不了的病要靠佛治。佛是什么?佛是心。

65、现代的医院和法院差不多,动不动就给病人下了死刑判决通知书。而好多情况下,是把不该判死刑的人判了死刑。为什么这么说呢?就以“癌症”为例,癌症现在在人们的心里=死刑。其实如果我们不叫它癌症,那么对于病人来讲,就等于给病人留下了希望,等于留下了生机。所以我讲,现在的癌症病人有大半是被吓死的,是被精神压力折磨死的。同时也是被医院折磨死的。因为你一旦被诊断成了癌症,那么他就可以肆无忌惮地处理你,治不死是你命大,治死了,因为你是癌症。事实上讲,没有治不了的病,只是你的心能不能放下,一切病从心生,一切病从心治。只要你还活着,你就有生机。找到了这个生机,对症而治,你就会康复。

66、现在是一个竞争,把所有的秩序都打乱了,把人引入了魔道。竞争是什么?竞争就是把人们引入无限的贪欲世界。你一方面提倡竞争,一方面又谈什么构建和谐社会,这不是典型的自欺欺人吗。

67、根据阴阳互抱的原理来看,清与浊相互吸引。所以人食入清新之物必将与体内污浊之物相抱,从而把它们排除体外。

68、污浊之物的产生一是因为食入不干净食物,但更主要的是食入了过多的食物,体内不能运化造成食物堆积成垃圾。

69、顺应自然是养生的最高境界。一个人生下来,他的命运就基本上是有一定定数的。他该干什么,不该干什么,该吃什么不该吃什么,如果能顺着他的运数去做,就会平安无事。有悟性的人会发现、知道自己的运数,知道他应该干什么,不应该干什么。所以养生绝对不是简单模仿,人云亦云。不要去羡慕别人,要从自己的心里找到自己的悟性。那么人如何才能发现自己是否顺其自然了呢?其实这太简单不过了,你有病了,你不舒服了,你不自在了,那你就是违背自然了。要做到顺外面大自然的自然,还要顺自己内在命运的自然,这二者是不可或缺的。

70、很多人一听到医师宣布自己得了重病时,往往都会显现出一副无辜的模样,希望用切、割、毒、杀等外来方式去除疾病,然而,疾病真的会没来由地产生吗?世上绝对没有这种「好好的就突然生病的事情」。以感冒为例,如果真要病人作自我反省的话,通常患者都会表示,自己在感冒之前,曾经一连熬了好几个通宵;有些人会说,自己最近吹了冷风、淋了雨;有些人则说,工作的压力很大,常常头痛又失眠。事实上,诸如此类现象,都是导致感冒的因素,接句话说,假使病人的敏感度及警觉性够的话,自然能够做到「防患未然」的目标。

71、真正的科学是什么?就是因缘果报。不信因果,就不是真正的科学。

72、没有怕吃亏的心,没有占别人便宜的心。换句话说,就是你能吃亏,别人就是要你命你都舍得,你都给他,而自己在任何时候都不去贪便宜,那你的心还能不定吗?世人谁能做到?但佛就做到了。

73、当人们掌握了健康的方法之后,会真正享受到那种完全不用担心疾病的自信,这种感觉真好,但愿您也能和我们一样拥有这份自信。

74、学问深时意气平,心定则气平。所以对于一个得道的人来说,观察一个人,并不是一件很困难的事,这也是相随心转的结果。

75、名为五欲之最难破者,色次之,财又次之,食与睡更次之。名心不死,无以入道。

76、百病之始,起于风邪乘入。如体气虚弱,营卫失调,或忧思惊恐,酒色劳力,真气耗而外邪入矣。

77、治五脏之病,莫先于补气。肾犹亟焉。补气在勿动心,心动则肝旺,各脉震惊,真水耗损。心为扇,主引风。风动则火旺,火旺则水干,水干则地损。

79、从当年希特勒绕开盟军坚固防线攻克马其诺防线的案例中,我悟到了:对付一些顽固的病症,不能正面硬攻,要从其他的相关方面突破。如治疗肾病,肝病这些顽固之症,可通过调肺、脾等来达到效果。

80、中庸,是养生的根本原则。人体中的气血也是一对阴阳,血为阴为体,气为阳为用。血为气之母,气为血之帅。气不足,易得淤积之病,如肿瘤、血栓等;气太过,易得脑出血之类的病。所以,只有气血平衡,人才能健康。

81、人只有悟到什么是“自然”了,才算是得道了。知道自然,然后能顺其自然,这个人就是神人。懂得阴阳了,懂得顺其自然了,你就一定会成为良医大德了。

82、什么是自然,自然就是任何事物都有阴阳两面,任何事物都要经过生、长、收、藏的过程。你顺应这个过程,采用五行相生相克的原理去调节病人的平衡,怎么会治不好病呢。

83、简单和复杂是一对阴阳,越是复杂的事情,往往用最简单的办法就可以解决。同样,看似最简单的问题,你往往解决起来并不容易,你付出极大的努力也不一定能解决得了。这就和刚柔一样,柔极能克刚,刚极柔不防。所以,我们在解决问题的时候就要有这个思路,遇到复杂的问题要去找简单的方法解决,遇到简单的问题不要忽视它,要引起足够的重视。就和毛主席所说的那样,战略上藐视,战术上重视。就是对问题给予藐视,对过程引起重视。

84、我们看看这个世界上是不是这个道理。吃饭睡觉有几个人能顺其自然,有几个人能遵守自然。你遵守不了,为什么?因为它太简单了,正因为太简单了,所以你就不容易遵守。这就是辩证法。

85、什么是平衡?平衡就是阴阳的互相依存和互相制约,哪一方太过或不及都会失去平衡。怎么会伤元气,失去平衡就是在伤元气。经常处于平衡的状态,元气就会保持得好,人就衰老的慢。

86、阴阳之道就是矛盾对立的两个方面互相依存、互相转化。任何一对矛盾,如果一方脱离了另一方,不受另一方的制约了。那它离消失、灭亡就不远了。你看,当今社会,领导们都不喜欢制约,喜欢独来独往,我行我素,贪污受贿,其结果是什么就可想而知了。阴和阳就是如此。大自然中,一个事物的出现,总有另它产生的因素,但同时总会出现另一因素来制约它。这就是五行相生相克的道理,也是阴阳相互依存、相互制约的道理。所以养生的道理也是如此,你生病了,总有一个使你生病的因素存在,同时也会有一个制约它,令你疾病消失的因素存在。正如自然界中毒蛇存在的地方,必定附近就有解蛇毒的草药存在一样。

87、什么叫人得意忘形?他失去控制了,失去阴的制约了,所以其下场毕竟是……,同样人也不能一味消沉下去,这就是失去阳对他的制约了。

88、如何具有大智慧,没有博大的胸怀,哪来的大智慧。

89、俗语说,活到老,学到老。学习也要应时,到什么年龄就要学他这个阶段应该学的东西,否则就是不应时,不顺其自然。但看看我们现在的教育,从幼儿园到大学,有多少是学了应该学的东西。小时候应该学什么,应该学德,学孝道,接着学识字断句,再往下学如何做事。到青年学如何优生优育、家庭幸福。到了中年,学习养生之道。到了老年,学放下心态,安享晚年。继续教育学什么,就是要学这些。

90、情志跟疾病的相关性是很密切的,有些疾病就是因情志而起,你用药物治疗,治来治去都不好,对于这类疾病,解铃还需系铃人。五志能够致病,五志亦能解病。

91、养生有一条很重要,就是不能怕死。怕死者阳气不足,阳气不足,死神就会找到你。这就是道家所讲的,修炼人要有英雄的气质。仁、智、勇三者缺一不可。

92、当你把什么学问理解到她是非常简单朴素的时候,这时候你才是真正得到其中的三昧了。如果你还感到她是那么博大精深,深不可测,那是你还没有掌握到她的精髓,是只见到茂密的树叶,而没看到她的根本,这时候你还是处于“有”的阶段,没有达到“无”的境界。一切离不开阴阳,万事万物离不开阴阳。这个根本就是阴阳。知其一,万事毕。

93、凝神定气,物我两忘——养生的真谛。

94、主明则下安,以此养生则寿,殁世不殆,以为天下则大昌。主不明则十二官危,使道闭塞而不通,形乃大伤,以此养生则殃,以为天下者,其宗大危,戒之戒之!

95、五行相生相克的应用:凡是因五脏太过引起的疾病,都可以用五行相克的方法对治。同样,凡是因为五行不足引起的疾病都可以用五行相生的方法解决。这是运用五行的根本原则。

96、现代人往往都在追求提高物质生活方面下工夫,这种追求的后果是很可怕的。要知道,人们对于物质的欲望是无止境的。一旦这种欲望得不到控制,那等待我们的就是无止境的痛苦。其实,物质能带来的享受,精神也能;药物能治疗疾病,心理疗法也能做到。所以,我们用一生来追求财富,不如用一生来培养出一种好的心态,让我们的精神达到一种超凡的境界。

97、当人们掌握了健康的理念和方法之后,会真正享受到那种完全不用担心疾病的自信,这种感觉真好,愿我们都能拥有这份自信。

98、我们人体是一个充满智能的机体,我们的身体有好多“哨兵”:牙齿、阑尾、扁条体等。本来一旦我们的身体有异常时(通常是“上火”),这些哨兵会立即做出反应通知大脑。聪明的人这时候就应该调整心态,检讨自己,让自己平和下来。但现在我们的西医都做了什么?你疼不是吗,我把你们通通切除掉。现在更有甚者,发明了一种仪器,你不是得了过敏性鼻炎打喷嚏吗?我把你鼻子里的敏感区神经烧毁,这样以后你怎么刺激它都不会打喷嚏了。西医这样做的后果就是可能我们再生病后,切掉的就是我们的五脏六腑了。

99、记住,我们偶尔拉肚子、打喷嚏、咳嗽、发烧等都是我们自己的身体修复系统在工作,不要一出现这些症状就滥用药物,否则这些药物就会破坏你自身的修复功能,一旦你的修复功能减弱或丧失,那你就把命运交给这些药物了。记住,只要症状不严重,最好的办法是静养,安心静气让自身的修复系统来完成疾病的修复工作。所以,我们每个人都要慎用药物,让我们自身的修复系统功能恢复起来,这才是真正的健康之道。

100、很多重病或绝症,都只有一个理由:恨。当这恨没了,病也必一起消失。这世间最难解的是绵延不止的恨,固有解不开的恨,才有治不好的病。

百年養生實戰分享

一位112歲的老中醫在往生前整理了100條養生秘方,其中有些我們已經講過,但從一位有百年治病、養生經驗的老大夫口中再聽一次,又是另一番感覺。以下分享其中精華。
1,記住:睡覺是養生第一要素。睡覺的時間應該是晚9早3,這個時間好比是一天中的冬季,冬季主藏,冬季不藏,春夏不長,即第二天沒精神。
(嚴浩按:過了半夜不睡覺,吃仙丹都沒用。)

2,一切藥物對治病來說都是治標,不是治本,不管是中醫還是西醫,因為一切的病都是錯誤的因產生錯誤的果,錯誤的因不除,錯誤的果就不會絕根。健康的根本在心,一切法從心生,心淨則身淨,所以得病了,不要向外求,要靠自己自身的修復系統來修復自己的疾病。其實人和動物是一樣的,動物的病都是靠自己,人也能。
(嚴浩按:我們強調靠食療修復自愈系統已經很接近自然法則,老大夫更進一步指出健康的根本在心,更加透徹。這不是唱高調人講的空話,是出自大夫之口,應該覺悟乃是如假包換的自然法則。)

3,正確的觀念遠比昂貴的藥物和危險的手術更能幫助患者消除疾病。有了正確的觀念,你就會有正確的決定,你就會有正確的行為,你就可以預防許多疾病的發生。

4,人所具有的一切智慧,絕對不是從書本裏學來的,是來自真誠心、清淨心,從定中生出。
(嚴浩按:從書本學到的是知識,結合生活經驗、用心反復走幾遍便發酵成智慧。)

5,人的大部分生病現象是人體在調節、清理身體垃圾時所表現的現象,是人體自動調節平衡所表現出的狀態,應該把它們當成正常的生理現象,而不應該去把它當成病因來消滅。所以當人在生病的時候,一定不要有怨恨嗔恚心,心裏要安定,心定則氣順,氣順則血暢,氣順血暢則百病消。
(嚴浩按:就是說,當身體有病徵,小如咳嗽、香港腳,大如癌症、糖尿病,是免疫系統在試圖調節、清理身體垃圾,要幫身體製造一個健康環境,啟動自愈能力,不要把它當成病因來消滅。樹上出現了枯枝,不要去解剖枯枝,先要檢查和測試泥土中的水分和養分,再檢查是否有來自外界的蟲害和污染。)

6,人要想健康不老,就要:一,減少體內的垃圾;二,增加血脈經絡的暢通;三,增加體內的氣血。
(嚴浩按:從食療的角度,益生菌清掉腸中的垃圾;布緯食療清血補血增加血脈經絡的暢通;新鮮而適當的飲食、早睡早起、加上適當運動增加血氣。)

7,過度地增加食物不僅不會增加血氣,而且會成為身體中的垃圾負擔,反過來還得靠消耗血氣來把他們清理掉。五臟六腑是一個血氣加工廠,食物是原材料,加工能力是有限的,而食物是無限的,所以食物的數量必須得到控制。

8,暢通的經絡需要:清淨心。一切七情六慾都會破壞清淨心,從而破壞經絡的正常運行。(嚴浩按:布緯博士強調樂觀、正面思維是治療癌症的關鍵。)

11,人違背了養生法則,雖不一定會立即得病,但一旦形成習慣,就會大大增加得病的機會。這就和交通規則一樣,你違背了交通規則,不一定會出事故,但其危險性是顯而易見的。

12,人必須保持一定的飢餓才對養生有利。(嚴浩按:細胞在飢餓的時候才開始修復自己。)

13,中醫的最高境界是養生,養生的最高境界是養心。所以,就養生而言,下士養身,中士養氣,上士養心。看一個人也是一樣,觀相不如觀氣,觀氣不如觀心。

14,人生最忌是個亂字,心亂了,對外可以紊(亂)事,對內可以打擾血氣,使失正常。凡惱怒恐怖喜憂昏疑,都是亂,為多病短壽的根源,不但養病時不應亂,即平居時亦忌心亂。
15,大病初癒,切忌理髮、洗足、沐浴。
16,對於一個有宿疾的人來說,只有氣血充足了,病情才會顯現出來。所以練功的人在功夫達到一定水平後都會出現一些「有病」的現象。這個時候要沉住氣,定下心來多做些靜功來增加自己的氣血,以盡快度過這個時期。一是通過這裏所介紹的補充氣血的方法,二是通過散步打通氣機。

17,人要想健康,就必須使體內有足夠的「氣」來「氣化」所進的食物,只有這樣,你的體內才不會積累垃圾,不會有多餘的食物來釋放游離的「虛火」損害你體內的臟器,這個「虛火」反過來會損耗你的「氣」,所以,從這個意義上來講,現代人生病,大多數是飲食不節的緣故。
(嚴浩按:內臟好比是一組精密的齒輪,當脾胃這個齒輪動,為了配合,其他的器官一定會同時動,當食物比需要的多,內臟要不停的開工,這時連鋼鐵造的機器如果不停滾動都會發熱,換到身體中,過勞的內臟一樣會發燒發熱,於是就有老中醫說的狀況,長期飲食不節便又有虛火、又傷氣。)

18,其實,許多真正的發現和發明,所需要的不是所謂系統的書本知識;恰恰相反,一個沒有受過任何系統教育,但悟性極高的、具有開放思維的人,他往往真正悟到真相。

19,氣以行血,血以補氣,二而一也。凡人久視則傷血、久卧傷氣、久坐傷肉、久立傷骨、久行傷筋,七情六慾之過則傷元氣、傷心腎。相火旺,真陽耗。
(嚴浩按:久看電腦電視傷血、睡太多傷氣、吃腦一族久坐傷肉,肉與脾臟相連,所以吃腦一族的脾胃大部分都比較弱,反過來每天堅持散步則健脾、需要久站的職業傷骨、久行傷筋這一點我最近深有體會,因為太積極行山不注意休息,腳跟已經痛了一個星期。)

20,心定神一,受治者信堅心專,兩心相合,可以統治百病,無不神效。
(嚴浩按:病人需要信心,信心來自知識,要讓自己多學一點健康知識,有信心以後,心就安定下來,神就集中,頭腦思維因而清晰,於是可以統治百病,無不神效。)

21,心神不安,情性躁急,為致病致死之總因。故安心法,為衛生(改善健康)第一要訣。心可以主動一切。心
定則氣和,氣和則血順,血順則精足而神旺,精足神旺者,內部抵抗力強,病自除矣。故治病當以攝心為主。

(嚴浩按:我對放下、回頭的理解,就是病人應該放下煙、酒、肉,但談何容易?不願意放下的患者說出來的道理比佛祖還大,叫做「要一切隨心隨意」。昨天與一位多年未見的大明星吃飯,她一隻眼睛已經看不見,長期消化不良,水腫,腿痛,醫生要把她的盆骨關節鋸掉……她知道食療可以改善健康,也信奉佛祖,但她更信奉「要一切隨心隨意」,作為老朋友,我除了心痛甚麼都幫不上。)

24,心過勞的人,心疲肝旺,肝木克土(脾胃),脾胃受病,消化不良,營養不足,夜眠不安。土又克水(腎),於是腎水大虧,水不足則火(肝火、心火、虛火)更旺,心腎相聯,心氣更弱,肺病即成,內部相互關聯,一動全動,一病全病。所以治病在安其心……

26,人在生病的時候最忌諱是嗔恚心起。這個時候一定要安然順受,讓心安定,然後慢慢調理,健康很快恢復。心安才能氣順,氣順才能除病,否則心急火上,肝氣受損,加重病情。心神寧一,那渾身的血氣,自可健全發揮。
(嚴浩按:嗔恚心的意思是不耐煩、怨氣、煩惱、發脾氣,這些負面情緒只會進一步破壞健康,使到『心急火上,肝氣受損,加重病情』。正面思維同樣是布緯食療的要點,態度和心境影響健康,這一點中外醫生見解一致。)

27,子時失眠,腎水必虧,心腎相連,水虧則火旺,最易傷神。
(嚴浩按:子時即半夜11點,這時候如果不睡覺,吃仙丹都沒有用,我已經講到嘴皮破。可以早起,不可以晚睡,這是健康的原則。)

28,睡時如有思想,不能安着,切勿在枕上轉側思慮,此最耗神。
(嚴浩按:我如果睡時有思想睡不着,就坐起來靠着枕頭靜坐,靜坐是有焦點的思想方法,在枕頭上轉側思慮或者平時對着空氣發呆是沒有焦點的腦活動,前者幫我們聚氣,後者消耗我們。靜坐很隨意,不一定需要像大師打坐一樣雙盤、單盤,散散盤起兩腿已經可以,不要硬挺直脊背,鬆鬆的就可以,但不要塌下腦袋,等到發現自己塌下腦袋是已經有了睡意,這時候順勢重新躺下便入睡了。靜坐的開始會有控制不了的腦活動,告訴自己是一片天,天和自己是一體,腦活動只是浮雲,不要去控制浮雲,不要去跟隨浮雲,只讓浮雲從眼角中自己消失。過程中一再暗示自己是一片天,天和自己是一體,把注意力分一點在呼吸上,注意到呼吸慢慢深了,人化成了一片天,沒有了身體,呼吸也隨之暢順。然後把注意力再分一點到小腹,讓氣往下走有幫助減慢腦活動。腦活動在開始的時候如果很狂野,索性微微開眼,在黑暗中不經意地盯着自己鼻尖方向,繼續暗示自己是一片天,待浮雲慢下來後才逐漸閉上眼,重複以上方法。

31,養病治病不可求速。因性急助火,火旺損氣,反而不美。另不可貪多,貪則無恆而性急,況百病由貪而起,不可再貪以重增病苦也。(病去如抽絲,細胞需要時間排毒,需要時間修復,這個過程要養,不可以貪快。百病由貪而起,大部分的病是貪吃出來的,太積極運動也是貪,所以也一樣傷身。)

(嚴浩按,這真是為我國人對症下藥,國人進補幾乎只知道補腎,其實心理大都是想壯陽,是藥三分毒,結果身體越補越糟糕。記住老大夫的話,每天適當運動就可以生陽,每天散步就可以生陰,意思就是為細胞增加氧氣,這樣血液運行就有力,氣脈從人體後面的腳跟升起到頭頂,為之升陽,人的陽氣興旺就健康,就用在了五臟六腑上。老大夫說的「陰為陽之母,陽為陰之用」就是這個意思,是道家的用功原則,從前是不傳之秘。)

34,為了養生而死的,佔十分之三。到底怎麼回事?是因為太愛惜自己的身體了。為了這副臭皮囊,怕受辱,怕受寵,怕吃虧,怕上當,瞻前顧後,左顧右盼,擔驚受怕,患得患失……這樣,他那顆心整天縮成核桃樣,像是被狗反覆啃過,怎麼能不死。越怕死,越死得快。你要是養生,就得不怕死。只有不怕死,才能遠離死。真正不怕死的人,走路不會遇上老虎,就是遇上老虎也不吃他。打仗遇不上刀槍,就是遇上,刀槍也不傷他。為甚麼?因為他不把死當回事,不怕死,死也就沒法了。

A: A pure vegetarian diet is deficient in a few amino acids. These can be replaced by eating eggs. Egg protein (the whites) contains a full and well-balanced complement to all the amino acids. So, you do not have to worry about being deficient. In addition, by eating egg yolks, you are getting a full complement of phospholipids, which are essential for cardiovascular and brain health.
 
It is important not to scramble the eggs, as exposing them to the air while cooking will cause harmful oxidization of the lipids. It is best to cook them in either extra-virgin olive oil or extra-virgin coconut oil.
 
Add several dashes of turmeric to the oil, mix well and you will reduce the risk of oxidizing the fats. The turmeric will also add a wonderful taste — my grandchildren love it when I serve them eggs cooked with tumeric.

蓖麻籽油排毒怎样进行?

方法

  1. 将蓖麻籽油倒到绒线布上,令整块布润湿为上;
  2. 时间许可的话,先做肝脏按摩更好;
  3. 受者仰卧(面朝天)放松,拉起衣服露上肚皮,将蘸满蓖麻籽油的布盖著右肋骨下肝脏的位置,再加个注满热水的暖水袋压著它;
  4. 停留60分钟,然后取开。如期间过热难受,可以稍为移开一阵或转移位置。如在冬天进行,暖水袋不够热,亦可更换较热的水;
  5. 事后,那油布不用清洗 (因为油布无论用任何的清济,都很难除去油质了)。可将它摺好,放在容器密封保存在雪柜,再用时取出来解冻便可。油布可重复使用多次,直至感到需要换为止。

蓖麻籽油排毒有什麽禁忌?

  1. 太饱不适宜进行,断食时进行将会得到很好的效果,但要视乎个人身体状况而定;
  2. 在一般状况时,经期时进行,都会有好的效果,但要视乎个人身体状况而定;
  3. 怀孕期,特别是在身体不稳定的情况下,都不建议进行;
  4. 如受者的皮肤较为薄或不能过度受热,需要加垫毛巾,以免皮肤受损起泡;

Quercetin Protects Your Prostate

As men get older, they often experience a number of prostate problems, such as enlargement, (prostatic hypertrophy), chronic prostatitis, or prostate cancer.

Three of the most beneficial plant flavonoids for prostate health are curcumin, silymarin, and quercetin. In combination they dramatically improve prostate health and go a long way in preventing prostate cancer.

A new study found that quercetin inhibited several mechanisms required by prostate cancers for growth, especially invasion and metastasis (what makes prostate cancer deadly).

Natural Remedy for Hearing Loss

One of the major causes of hearing loss is aging, a condition called presbycusis. There is some evidence that the damage is not only in the auditory (hearing) nerves, but also in connections within the brainstem.

Inflammation and excitotoxicity play a significant role in this condition, and are often triggered by poor circulation within the inner ear and brainstem.

By improving blood flow through the tiny arteries of the nerves and brainstem, vinpocetine helps protect these delicate neurons. 

Reducing inflammation and blood coagulation, blocking excitotoxicity, and improving red blood cell elasticity, energy production, and mitochondrial stimulation also go a long way in protecting hearing.

Animal studies have shown that vinpocetine can prevent damage to the hearing mechanisms within the brainstem.

Studies using people with hearing loss and tinnitus (persistent ear ringing) caused by trauma found that 50 percent of those given vinpocetine within one week of the injury had a complete disappearance of the ringing in their ears.

A significant improvement in hearing occurred in 79 percent of these patients, and 66 percent had a significant decrease in tinnitus no matter how long after the injury the treatment was started.

Other studies have shown an improvement in sensorineural hearing loss (which occurs when there is damage to the inner ear or nerve pathways to the brain) and in Meniere’s disease, an inner ear condition that causes vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, and tinnitus.

One of the complications of taking certain types of antibiotics, such as the aminoglycosides, is hearing loss and tinnitus, which can be quite severe.

A recent study found that vinpocetine could protect the hearing of animals given high doses of one of these antibiotics.

In most studies, the dose for hearing loss ranged from 10 mg twice a day to 20 mg twice a day.

I have received a lot of questions regarding the best dose and toxic doses of curcumin since writing an entire newsletter on the subject (August 2011). Fortunately, it’s very difficult for someone to reach a toxic dose of curcumin due to limitation of absorption. Studies using as much as 10,000 mg a day were found to be safe. DENTAL BRACE CAUSE NICKEL TOXICITY

A number of teenagers and those in their twenties have reported to us that their health became worse after they wore dental braces for several years.  Their hair mineral tests all revealed elevated levels of nickel, a very toxic metal.
Indeed, it appears that nickel alloys are being used in some dental braces, or perhaps for all of them.  Nickel is inexpensive and malleable, qualities that make it ideal for dental wires and perhaps other dental uses.
The problem is much worse in anyone who does not eat a diet high in cooked vegetables and high quality foods.  Unfortunately, this describes most teenagers and those in their twenties.  Enough of the vital minerals will antagonize or oppose some of the nickel, but if the diet is low in physiological minerals, the body will absorb more nickel from the environment.

NICKEL, AN EXTREMELY TOXIC METAL

            Nickel is unfortunately an extremely toxic metal that has no business being anywhere near the body.  It is associated with feelings of anger, rage, depression and even suicidal thoughts.  It can also affect the kidneys, the lungs, digestion and other body functions.  Even small amounts of nickel in the body can be extremely toxic. 
            Other possible sources of nickel include:
- wearing nickel-plated jewelry, or costume jewelry.  Nickel plating looks like silver, so jewelry is often made this way.
- rooibos tea, also called red tea.
- consuming hydrogenated oils found in commercial peanut butter, all margarines, Crisco, vegetable shortening, candies and many refined food products.
- smoking cigarettes.
- handling or breathing fumes of metal, especially steel, which contains nickel.  Occupations such as metal-working, welding, construction, electrical work and other may be provide sources of nickel.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE ELEVATED NICKEL

            A nutritional balancing program will remove nickel from the body in all cases.  In my experience, this is the best method to remove it.  I do not recommend chelation therapy at all, as it always removes some vital minerals along with the toxic ones.
            Also, reduce your exposure to nickel by removing braces, avoiding hydrogenated oils and cigarettes, and do not wear nickel-plated jewelry if possible.  If you must wear it, then take off the jewelry and coat it with clear polyurethane varnish on any area that will touch your skin.  Revarnish it once a year or so, as the varnish will wear off.

Fucoidan, which is an optional treatment, actually kills cancer cells but lacks the power of the Cellect-Budwig to work quickly.

While beta carotene is rarely used by itself, it is clear that it is a major contributor, if not the main contributor, of many treatment plans. Of course raw carrot juice should be the major source of beta carotene.

Nutrition review


Give this background, even if you accept the dietary recommendations Dr. Block, even with their flaws, it is nearly certain that your diet will improve dramatically and health benefits will flow from that single decision. His advice is mostly very, very good. But it does have some errors. If you can correct those errors, you can get the full benefits he intends for you to get. I hope in a future revision of this book, the errors are corrected. From reading this, I have the impression that Dr. Block truly cares about people with cancer and thus will make the needed corrections.

Another impression I got is the book is somewhat of an advertorial for the treatment center Dr. Block is part of. Only somewhat, though. Of course, there's the subtitle giving this impression. But, the tone isn't advertorial and the book really isn't about the Block Center. It's about what the Block Center is doing and why it works.

I think, given the complexity of the topic, Dr. Block is trying to speak from experience. As he doesn't work at other centers, that leaves using this one as the basis. He may also feel that it's not his place to tell other cancer care providers how to do their jobs. So, his position is, "Here's what we are doing and you can see it works measurably better than non-integrated approaches. Please consider this."

The errors I can identify are related to either nutrition or exercise. I'm providing a complete list, so you can print out this review and use it as an erratum to the book.

Errors: Nutrition

Nutrition is a subject that most doctors know very poorly and in which what little they do know is often incorrect. I point that out so the reader understands Dr. Block has actually done a pretty decent job here. Lots of good advice, but some errors.

Fish. He repeatedly recommends eating fish and taking fish oil. Aside from the moral imperative to reduce the demand for human consumption of fish (read about fish depletion, some time), there is the fact that fish flesh contains high concentrations of various toxins. If you're sick, you should avoid fish rather than eat more of it.

Egg yolk. He is under the impression that egg yolks are bad. The opposite is true. Eating the whole egg is much healthier than tossing away half of the egg. Yolks contain some great nutrients, including vitamin D. Read about vitamin D, and you see it reaches into just about every bodily system. It's arguably the most important of the vitamins. Why throw it away?

Dr. Block recommends eggs that come from chickens that have Omega 3 added to their feed. This is also wrong. What you want are eggs that come from chickens that aren't on chicken feed (regardless of what's added). In CAFOs (read about those), chickens are routinely fed pig poop, ground chicken, and chicken poop in addition to the non-natural grains. That is what commercial chicken feed is, and adding Omega 3 to it doesn't make for healthy, good-tasting eggs.

Free range chickens or those raised on smaller farms (e.g., Amish) naturally produce eggs high in Omega 3. To test if you have good eggs, check the shell. A good egg has a tough shell that you must whack hard to crack open. The cheap, mass-produced eggs have thin, fragile shells (the chickens that lay them also have fragile skeletons).

Whey protein. This is a short molecule protein that the gut absorbs rapidly. Bodybuilders consume it right after very hard workouts, and the muscles uptake it quickly. But consume it outside that "depleted muscle window" and most of it just turns to fat. This is why there are protein blends. There are alternative proteins also, such as buckwheat and hemp, that do not come from dairy products. Dr. Block rails against dairy constantly in this book, yet a cornerstone of his dietary advice is whey--a dairy product.

Fruit juice. He actually recommends this, so my recommendation to him is to ask an endocrinologist to explain why fruit juice is not fit for human consumption. Yes, there is some upside to fruit juice consumption. But the downside is comparatively so immense that the question of whether to drink it isn't open for debate. The effects include insulin spiking, and Dr. Block devotes considerable space in this book to the subject of moderating insulin (which he says cancers require for metastasizing). You can't moderate insulin and spike it; these are mutually exclusive.

Kale. If you grow this in soil enriched with crumbled eggshells and coffee grounds, you get a dark, calcium-rich plant that contains all of the nutrients you need for absorbing calcium. The calcium chart Dr. Block includes in the book does not account for bioavailability or other factors that determine how much of the calcium you can use from a given source. On the one hand, Dr. Block advises to reduce calcium intake and on the other he advises to eat more kale. I'm not sure how to resolve this conflict, but I would lean toward the latter.

On page 84, he rates eggplant as "OK for Daily Use" but not "OK for Every Meal." I think he's referring to breaded/fried eggplant. I grow eggplant in rich soil and cut it up into cubes that I add, raw, to my veggies and soups. Eggplant is an anti-oxidant powerhouse, particularly in relation to colon cancer. Eggplant is OK for Every Meal.

Also on page 84, he recommends eating corn. No, no, and no. On page 85, he calls corn a vegetable. It is not. Corn is a grain, and it is the one grain that has been cultivated for over 5,000 years to be high in sugar and less nutrient-dense. Consequently, the typical corn product is not fit for animals (including humans) to eat. That includes sweet corn. Canned corn adds more toxicity to the mix.

The exception with corn is popcorn. Popcorn has a very hard kernel and is low in sugar. You must heat it and burst the kernel to eat it. Popcorn with garlic and cayenne pepper on it is healthy and a good fat loss food (I'm at 6.3% body fat as I write this, and have been eating this almost daily for the past month and a half), provided you have a moderate amount, pop it in olive oil (or some other safe oil, not the microwave stuff), and eat it with beans to get a nearly complete protein profile.

Highly glycemic grains. Millet is highly glycemic. It will spike your insulin. This, and some other grain recommendations from Dr. Block, are to be avoided.

On page 86, Dr. Block advises eating crackers. These are typically made with multiple toxins, including hydrogenated oil, refined wheat flour (which is highly glycemic), and corn syrup. If you choose to buy anything that comes in a box or can, read the label very carefully before putting it in your shopping cart. If you are eating out, just assume the crackers are toxic and don't eat them.

On page 94, he recommends raisins. In other places, he recommends other dried fruits. These are all highly glycemic. You can eat these in tiny amounts with a fat or protein.

On page 94, he recommends pineapple. This particular fruit has been bred to be high in sugar. It's sweet. It's highly glycemic. Canned pineapple adds extra toxicity over fresh. Fresh pineapple may be OK if eaten in small amounts along with something to blunt the glycemic effect, but why take the risk? There are plenty of other fruits to choose from.

On page 99, he recommends decaf coffee and doesn't elaborate on what this means. Typically, decaf coffee can also be called "formaldehyde enriched." Formaldehyde is a potent carcinogen. If you put decaf grounds on garden plants, they usually will die. That said, there is a caffeine-reduction process that doesn't use formaldehyde. The actual plant has been bred to produce less caffeine. As caffeine is normally harmless unless taken in huge quantities and formaldehyde is toxic even in low amounts, I think I'd stick with regular coffee.

On page 354, he recommends canola oil but says to avoid safflower oil. I disagree with this. Canola oil isn't a natural oil, and it has some significant downsides. I use safflower oil regularly.

He disses peanut butter and in one spot mentions commercial peanut butter. Peanut butter is very healthy, but look on the label to ensure it's not commercial peanut butter. That will be true if the ingredients are listed as "Peanuts" or "Peanuts and salt." If there is anything else on that label, don't buy the peanut butter. Also remember that peanut butter is farily calorie dense. A little goes a long way.

Errors: Exercise

On page 169, Dr. Block correctly identifies the need for good posture. Yet, few people have anything remotely close. Bodybuilders, gymnasts, and serious martial artists are among the few who are conscious of their posture all the time. The solution for most people is a chiropractor. Yet, Dr. Block mentions chiropractic only once in passing as a "you might want to" thing. Actually, chiropractic should be a core aspect of your physical fitness program.

Dr. Block discusses working your core. This is correct. The typical gym rat never does this. Properly done front squats work the core very well, which is why they are so exhausting. The core goes beyond what Dr. Block describes. It's not just the abs, but the whole abdominal cavity, including the pelvic floor. There's a whole body of literature about this.

Dr. Block gives a reason that situps are not a good exercise. He's correct that they aren't but the reason is they work mostly the hip flexors and actually work against good posture. A great ab exercise is the properly done front squat. Hanging leg raises are also good. These are my ab exercises, and I have very striking abs (my photo is at supplecity.com).

Dr. Block provides a great tip at the bottom of page 180. He talks about interval training, and he is spot on. So, not an error here. The error is he doesn't carry this through the rest of the book. Interval training is high intensity exercise, and most of his recommendations are for moderate or low intensity exercise--the kind that produces minimal results. There is extensive literature on why high intensity exercise has profound effects and other kinds of exercise have, at best, moderate benefits.

On page 207, he recommends endurance training to "lose weight" (by which he means lose fat). Wrong. This kind of training depresses testosterone (which signals the body to burn fat) and raises cortisol (which signals the body to store fat). There is extensive literature on this. You can also look at sprinters and notice their lean, strong physiques and compare them to marathoners whose layer of body fat deprives them of good muscle definition.

Also, go back to Dr. Block's own discussion of interval training. Endurance training is the opposite. While it will burn calories during the exercise, calorie burning stops shortly after and also the hormonal environment that it leaves is conducive to fat storage rather than fat burning.

On page 211, he says to get a trainer so you learn how to exercise without injuring your muscles. Very few people injure their muscles in weight training, as they don't train with intensity. The real problem is they don't have a good program in place and end up creating muscle imbalances. For example, they will do leg presses and not hamstring curls. This creates a muscle imbalance that eventually causes back pain and other problems. I don't do leg presses. Front squats done properly will work the entire leg and eliminate muscle imbalances. A qualified trainer can coach you on how to do this exercise properly. It's not intuitive.

Conclusion

With all of the above errors, is the book one to avoid? No. It's a great book. Even if you follow it to the tee and accept the errors as sound advice, you will be far better off than the typical American who has a bad diet, bad posture, and poorly planned fitness program (if any). Further, the book goes beyond these areas to provide what I presume to be excellent advice. But consult an endocrinologist and a fitness trainer who personally does front squats and looks very fit, so you can use what's good in here without using what's bad. Or, just print out this review as an erratum and you're good to go.

What's inside

This book consists of 556 pages. It has 29 chapters and an epilogue. It also has an index and three pages about the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment. Notice, that is only three pages. This is one reason why I say this book really isn't an advertorial for the Block Center.

Unfortunately, this book does not list sources or have a bibliography. There are some references in the text, and the author uses a large number of anecdotes.
